The work of 710 students from 43 high schools and junior high schools will be displayed at the 64th annual Southeast Missouri Regional Science Fair today, March 10 at the Show Me Center at Southeast Missouri State University.
The fair will feature 442 different projects – 280 in the Junior Division and 162 in the Senior Division. Participating students have explored scientific questions in astronomy, behavioral and social sciences, biochemistry and microbiology, biomedical and health sciences, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, engineering and robotics, engineering mechanics, environmental engineering, material sciences, math, animal science, energy and physics, and plant sciences.
Judging will begin at 1:15 p.m. Exhibits in the Science Fair will be open for public viewing from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., with an awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
This years fair features the largest number of participating students an indication there is a continuing and growing interest in science and technology among students in the southeast Missouri region, and the fair supports and provides students opportunities to pursue their academic interests and build career pathways.
Thousands of students over the last 64 years have prepared science exhibits and had their interest piqued by their work to the point that they continued their science education, said Dr. Chelsea Grigery, pediatrician with SoutheastHEALTH and the fairs director. Because of this fair and the scores of others around the country, this nation has benefited immeasurably by the products of minds and hands in research and industry to make mankinds life incalculably better. We commend this years participating students and wish them well in their future careers.
