In a small and quiet ceremony on Dec. 20, 2019, the Intensive English Program dedicated their library, located in the International Village, Cottage A, Room 111, in honor of Dr. Robert Thomas McCann — known as “Dr. Bob.”
McCann served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1965. After graduating from State University of New York at New Paltz, he earned his doctorate in adult education from the University of Southern Mississippi.
McCann started at Southeast as an academic advisor in 1979. After his retirement in 1994, he continued as an instructional specialist for the University’s Intensive English Programs. He famously encouraged students to learn three things — vocabulary, vocabulary, vocabulary.
