Nick Hurst’s “Manis”

From Crayons to College, an exhibit featuring the work of several Southeast Missouri State University student artists, is currently on display at Catapult Creative House in downtown Cape Girardeau.

A gallery lecture in which the students will discuss their work is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, and is free and open to the public. The exhibition opens today, Nov. 5, and runs through Jan. 23.

From Crayons to College showcases how artwork created by Southeast Art and Design students have evolved throughout their academic careers. As growing professionals, they have been given the opportunity to practice what they have learned in class through curating their own exhibition. Each student has provided one or more pieces that showcases their recent body of work. The exhibit features a wide variety of mediums across the board — digital art, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture — with various themes the students have been discovering over their college career.

Wendell Stapleton’s “Hatred”

The exhibit features the work of Billy Brooks, Katie Davis, Maria Esswein, Madi Hendricks, Nick Hurst, Leslie Mata, Ethan Mirgeaux, Christian Ondr, Curtis Ruegge, Wendell Stapleton, Macie Werner and Erika Wrzesinski.

An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6, from 5-9 p.m. in the Catapult Creative House Gallery. Visitors are welcome to tour the entire Catapult facilities, including the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Art students studios and student artist Gabriel Yurevichs solo exhibition, both on the second floor.
