Crisp Hall is the new home for the Universitys office of Counseling and Disability Services.

Southeast Missouri State University students returning to campus this fall will find all their health-related services and needs under one roof in the newly renovated Rosemary Berkel Crisp Hall of Nursing.

Crisp Hall, located on Academic Drive just off Pacific Street, is the new home for the Universitys office of Counseling and Disability Services, joining the Campus Health Clinic in its newly reconfigured facility, and the Southeast Department of Nursing in expanded instructional and administrative space.

The University took the building offline at the end of the fall 2018 semester for a full renovation of the buildings electrical, mechanical, plumbing and HVAC systems, window replacements and a complete interior facelift.During that time, both Counseling and Disability Services and the Campus Health Clinic temporarily operated out of the Towers Complex.

The newly renovated Counseling and Disability Services 3,206-square-foot space on the second floor allows the counseling staff, licensed counselors and social workers to better meet the personal and social needs of the campus and local community. Their new space will help in better providing resources and assistance to students and help them in finding academic and personal success, said Janice Bunch, director of Counseling and Disability Services.

The newly renovated Counseling and Disability Services 3,206-square-foot space on the second floor allows the counseling staff, licensed counselors and social workers to better meet the personal and social needs of the campus and local community.

The new location includes a waiting area, four offices for Disability Services, 11 offices dedicated to Counseling Services, and a conference room.

The offices are more counseling conducive as well as therapeutic and allow for student confidentiality, Bunch said. The waiting room was designed with student confidentiality in mind so no one is able to see into the waiting area from outside in the hallway.

Offices also offer sound-proofing to help with confidentiality between counseling rooms. The rooms feature windows to help relieve stress and anxiety as well as encourage relaxation.

New areas allow for us to better serve students in a more comfortable, inviting environment as well as promote student confidentiality of services, Bunch said. We are also able to have better communication asa team with the new office layout and openness of spaces.

The relocation to Crisp Hall provides Counseling and Disability Services with dedicated space for large group events and gatherings, such as expressive art groups and substance abuse awareness prevention education groups.

Additionally, having the Universitys health-related services consolidated in one building allows Counseling and Disability Services to provide better, immediate referrals for students who may have medical needs that can be addressed in the Campus Health Clinic.

The Campus Health Clinic is in a newly renovated 3,302-square-foot space on the west end of the first floor and includes a large remodeled reception area.

The Clinic, operated by SoutheastHEALTH, is in a newly renovated 3,302-square-foot space on the west end of the first floor and includes a large remodeled reception area, four exam rooms, blood-draw room and a large conference room, allowing its staff of one registered nurse and one nurse practitioner to continue to provide excellent medical care for the campus community, said Kim Dennis, practice manager at the Clinic.

The Clinic provides most of the services that you can receive in a general family practice clinic, Dennis said. We pride ourselves in getting students in for same-day appointments and working around their class schedules.

The Clinic provides health treatment services, including physical exams, laboratory services, immunizations and allergy shots, minor medical procedures, prescription services, special equipment needs (ice packs/crutches); well women exams; and assessment and treatment of illness/injuries for Southeast students, faculty and staff.

The newly renovated areas will allow the Campus Health Clinic’s staff of one registered nurse and one nurse practitioner to continue to provide excellent medical care for the campus community.

Additionally, the renovated location includes an office for private consultations and special clinics for flu shots, tuberculosis screenings and sports physicals.

Funding for the project is the result of House Bill 19 signed into law in June 2015 that provided $10.08 million in maintenance and repairs for Grauel Building, Rosemary Berkel Crisp Hall of Nursing and Brandt Hall of Music. K&S Associates, Inc. of St. Louis, Missouri, served as the general contractor. Subcontractors on the project were Rednour and Associates, Inc., of Clay City, Kentucky; Reynolds and Doyle, Inc., of Paducah, Kentucky; Acme Fireproofing and Insulation of Jenks, Oklahoma; Cape Paint and Glass of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Interiors Plus, Inc., of Scott City, Missouri; Midwest Painting and Wallcovering of Cape Girardeau; Golterman and Sabo of St. Louis; Hi-Tech Fire Protection, LLC., of Scott City; Langford Service Co., Inc., of Jackson, Missouri; and Schneider Electric Co. of Perryville, Missouri.
