Southeast Missouri State Universitys online Bachelor of Science in healthcare management, informatics option, is ranked first among SR Education Groups 2018 Best Online Colleges for Value.Southeast is the only Missouri public university among the top 25. In compiling the rankings, SR Education Group, a leading education research publisher founded in 2004, researched and analyzed accredited online schools across the nation, taking into consideration academic strength factors as well as annual tuition rates with tuition below $20,000 for all ranked schools. Inclusion on this list shows high academic standards and a commitment to affordability, two key factors important to prospective students.Southeast Online is committed to providing a quality distance education experience. These rankings are one of the ways we have proven ourselves as a national industry leader, said Chelsea McNeely, director of Southeast Online Programs. The online learning environment weve built is supported by many at the University, including faculty who are enthusiastically and innovatively trying to find ways to meet students where they are, geographically and cognitively, and the staff of Southeast Online who are dedicated to ensuring online students have access to the same quality resources as those students on our main campus.Southeasts healthcare management degree prepares students for a variety of administrative opportunities in the healthcare industry. In addition to the traditional undergraduate student interested in a healthcaremanagement career, the program is geared towards practitioners who wish to advance in clinical management or move out of direct patient care into a support role. The informatics option is focused on the gathering and reporting of medical information to providers, insurers and accreditation agencies. The Harrison College of Business is very excited to learn that theSR Education Groupranked our program as #1 in their 2018 Best Online Colleges for aBachelor's in Healthcare Informatics, said Dr. Dana Schwieger, associate dean of the Harrison College of Business and professor of management information systems. Our faculty work with industry providers to continue to strengthen our programs to provide graduates with the skills they need to be successful in the workplace. We look forward to the continued growth of our Healthcare Management program alongside our other successfulbusiness degrees.Graduates are prepared for careers in healthcare facilities, hospitals, group medical office practices, home health care, nursing homes, medical practice management, healthcare technology companies, insurances companies, government agencies, counseling centers and risk management. Medical and health services managers, also known as healthcare executivesorhealthcare administrators, plan, direct, and coordinate medical and health services. They could manage an entire facility, a specific clinical area or department, or a medical practice for a group of physicians. Medical and health services managers direct changes that conform to changes in healthcare laws, regulations and technology.Dr. Sarah Holt, assistant professor of management, said, The program started in Fall of 2015 and has been very attractive to students."Our program learned from a student survey, conducted in Fall 2017, that the primary reason Southeast students chose to study the non-clinical side of healthcare is to improve both the delivery and quality of healthcare," Holt said. "These students have chosen healthcare administration for the right reason and are fortunate to be able to participate in a high-quality educational program at a great value, that prepares them for a lifetime of rewarding work. Working in healthcare management is challenging but satisfying work, and it allows individuals the opportunity to play a supporting role in improving the health and well-being of people."In the first two years, Southeasts program has significantly surpassed five-year growth projections, she said, and is in line with national trends.According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of medical and health services managers is projected to grow 20 percent through 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. As the baby-boom population ages and people remain active later in life, the demand for healthcare services is expected to rise. The full list of SR Education Groups 2018 Best Online Colleges forisavailable here.
