Puxico High School student Jolissa Culbertson received Best of Show at Southeast’s annual High School Art Exhibit for her artwork entitled Coat of Many Colors.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 22, 2016 Southeast Missouri State University has announced award winners in its annual High School Art Exhibit Exhibiting Excellence on display in the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum through March 13 at the River Campus.
Thirty-six high schools entered a total of 380 artworks in the competition. The opening award ceremony was held Sunday, Feb. 7. Puxico High School student Jolissa Culbertson received Best of Show for her artwork entitled Coat of Many Colors. The award includes a $1,000 Dr. Edwin Smith Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University as an art major. The scholarship was established to honor Smith, former Southeast Missouri State University art education and sculpture professor and the founder of the High School Art Exhibit.
Juror Shannon Duffy, art instructor at Murray State University, selected 108 pieces to be displayed in the exhibit. In addition, she selected awards for pieces in the following categories: Best of Show, Ceramics, Drawing, Fibers, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture and Mixed Media.
