Aviation isn't learned from a textbook alone. At SEMO's Center for Aviation Studies, students train in the same environment where professional pilots, airport managers, and aviation leaders build their careers. From day one, classroom learning is paired with flight training, simulator experience, industry networking, and hands-on opportunities at a working airport.

Whether becoming a Professional Pilot or preparing for a career in Aviation Management, students graduate with more than a degree. They leave with real experience, valuable industry connections, leadership skills, and the confidence to launch a successful career in aviation.

    Your Classroom Is a Real Airport

    SEMO's aviation programs are based at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport, a full-service, active airport and a dynamic, working aviation environment unlike any traditional campus setting.

    • Approximately 66 aircraft on the field with an average of 80 operations daily
    • 52,000-square-foot hangar with dedicated classrooms, faculty offices, and flight simulators
    • Daily Contour Airlines flights to and from Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth, and seasonal flights to and from Pensacola

    Every aircraft in SEMO's fleet is equipped with modern, industry-standard avionics that mirror what you will encounter in a professional cockpit:

    • Dual Garmin G5 Instrument Panel
    • Garmin G650 GPS
    • Lynx® NGT-9000 ADS-B touchscreen transponder

    You will graduate knowing how to operate the same technology used by aviation professionals in the field, not yesterday's technology.

Flight Training. From Day One.

Professional Pilot students begin flight training their very first semester. You will progress through FAA-required certifications: private pilot, commercial pilot, and flight instructor, all while logging the real flight hours that airlines and aviation employers look for. Small program size means no waitlists, no scheduling bottlenecks, and more one-on-one time with experienced faculty and aviation partners.

Beyond the Cockpit

Not every aviation career starts in the flight deck. Aviation Management students gain hands-on experience at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport through a curriculum that blends business, aviation safety, operations, and leadership. Graduates are prepared for careers in airline operations, airport management, air freight, and more. You'll graduate eligible to pursue the Certified Member exam through the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), a credential that sets resumes apart.
