At Southeast, our diverse ensembles give students the opportunity to enjoy an extensive range of musical styles and genres, to challenge themselves with group collaboration, and to have valuable experiences that help them grow as musicians.
Percussion Ensemble
The Southeast Missouri State University Percussion Ensemble is comprised of undergraduate students and is open to any percussionist at Southeast. Each semester the percussion ensemble performs a wide variety of repertoire representing many eras, styles, and composers.
Steel Drum Ensemble
The Steel Drum Ensemble at Southeast is known for bringing warm sounds with a variety of performance capabilities. The band’s repertoire includes a compilation of Caribbean, jazz, funk, popular, and classical music selections. Under the leadership and direction of Dr. Shane Mizicko, the Steel Drum Band is very active on campus and in the community.
Jazz Combo
This ensemble explores several music genres, including jazz, Latin, blues, ballads, R&B, funk, and commercial styles. Improvisation and group interaction are part of the class learned through both written and aural traditions. Students have the opportunity to perform at SEMO events and at community events such as the Jam Session Night at Spectrum Record Lounge and the Scout Hall Jazz Concert Series, as well as at many venues in town through the SEMO Gigging Project. It's an open space to explore!
Guitar Ensemble
Perform classical guitar repertoire in various ensemble configurations. This ensemble is required for guitar majors, and open to all students by audition. Learn chamber music and perform concerts each semester. Study transcriptions and original compositions for multiple guitars.
Chamber Music
SEMO Chamber Music ensembles are open to all students by audition. Chamber music provides experience playing in small ensembles and teaches students how to collaborate effectively with fellow musicians.
