Pre-Medicine is not a major at SEMO, but students can prepare for medical school while pursuing any academic major. Many students choose the Biology: Biomedical Sciences option because its coursework aligns with the biology, chemistry and other sciences commonly required for medical school admission and MCAT preparation.
The Biology: Biomedical Sciences option is designed for students preparing for careers in the health professions. Students interested in a pre-medical path can work with a pre-med advisor beginning in their first semester at SEMO to plan coursework and prepare for medical school.
Coursework in biology, chemistry and physics builds the scientific knowledge needed for the next step in a medical education, while elective courses can help students explore additional areas of interest.
Students also benefit from guidance throughout their undergraduate experience. Working with a pre-med advisor can help students plan their coursework, prepare for the MCAT and understand the steps toward medical school.
SEMO graduates have been accepted to medical school at consistently high rates, giving students a strong foundation as they pursue their goals in medicine.

Our agreement with St. George’s University guarantees all SEMO graduates from the pre-medical or biomedical sciences programs who meet the requirements gain admission into its accredited School of Medicine.

Because there is no pre-medical biology degree, you’ll select another area to complete your undergraduate degree. You’ll complete a minimum of 120 credit hours, including the general education requirements and at least 39 senior division hours.
