Psychology & Counseling

The Department of Psychology and Counseling  at Southeast Missouri State University emphasizes the understanding of how people think, feel, and act. Students in the Department acquire a strong knowledge base and critical thinking skills through a comprehensive and flexible curriculum to achieve their professional goals and also become leaders in their communities by working with faculty members from diverse backgrounds in research, internship, and student organization opportunities. Ultimately, students are prepared to apply their knowledge and skills to empower other individuals, couples, families, communities, businesses, and other organizations to reach their full potential.

The Department provides experiences that develop students' skills and knowledge across several major categories. These categories incorporate the American Psychological Association's (APA) Guidelines for the Undergraduate Major and the American Counseling Association's (ACA) values. These categories include:
