Prospective students interested in healthcare careers will have the opportunity to explore academic programs, tour specialized learning facilities and connect with faculty and current students during Southeast Missouri State University's Health Professions Day on Friday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Health Professions Day gives students a firsthand look at SEMO's healthcare programs through interactive activities, laboratory tours and academic sessions designed to help them explore career paths in the health professions.
"Choosing a career in healthcare is a significant and rewarding decision," said Dr. Kyle Schneider, interim director of SEMO’s School of Health Sciences. "This gives students the opportunity to explore different healthcare professions, connect with people who are already on that path and begin to envision themselves making a difference in the lives of others."
Throughout the day, participants visit specialized learning spaces, including the Nursing Simulation Lab, the Center for Speech and Hearing and athletic training labs. Students also have opportunities to meet faculty and current students, ask questions about academic programs and learn how SEMO prepares graduates for careers in healthcare.
Health Professions Day will begin with an academic fair at 9 a.m. in the atrium of Robert A. Dempster Hall, followed by a welcome from University deans at 9:30 a.m. in Glenn Auditorium. From 10 to 11:30 a.m., students will participate in breakout sessions focused on specific academic programs. Lunch and a campus tour led by the Office of Admissions will conclude the event.
Schneider said the opportunity to interact directly with faculty and explore the University's facilities can help prospective students better understand both the demands and rewards of pursuing a healthcare career.
"By interacting with our faculty and staff, students can see how intentionally we prepare the future healthcare leaders of our region," Schneider said. "We want them to see themselves thriving at SEMO and understand the opportunities available to them."
