The future of education in our region is sitting in today’s high school classrooms. On April 17, Southeast Missouri State University brings those students to campus for hands-on activities, conversations with faculty and current education majors about this inspirational profession and a firsthand look at how SEMO prepares confident, classroom-ready teachers.
Across the region and nation, school districts continue to face growing demand for qualified preschool, elementary, middle and secondary teachers. Events like Future Teacher Day help introduce students to the profession early while showing them all the pathways to teaching SEMO offers.
Future Teacher Day begins with a welcome session in the University Center before students participate in interactive educational sessions focused on elementary, early childhood and special education, middle school education and secondary education. Participants will also have opportunities to tour campus, learn about admissions and financial aid and connect with current education majors.
“Events like Future Teacher Day are an important part of strengthening the teacher pipeline in our region,” said Buddy Alberson, assistant dean of Educator Preparation. “Our goal is to inspire students who have a passion for working with young people to pursue teaching as a career.”
Throughout the day, students will explore SEMO’s EDvolution Center, an innovative learning environment where future educators experience the latest technology and teaching strategies used in today’s classrooms. The center provides opportunities for hands-on exploration that support modern teaching and learning.
Future Teacher Day will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
SEMO has prepared teachers since 1873, continuing its longstanding mission to educate and support those who will shape classrooms and communities for generations to come. By connecting students with pathways into the profession, Future Teacher Day inspires the next generation of teachers and strengthens the future of education.
