Southeast Missouri State University has been named to the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society nationally recognizing SEMO as one of the nation’s best transfer-friendly institutions. SEMO is one of only 228 universities nationwide listed on the 2024 Transfer Honor Roll by PTK.
SEMO made the PTK honor roll this year after opening a new Admissions Transfer Center in October 2023. The Transfer Center creates more dynamic pathways for transfer students, and SEMO added an additional $1,000 Transfer Academic Scholarship beginning fall 2024.
"This recognition by Phi Theta Kappa is a testament to our efforts to help any student who wants to come to SEMO," said SEMO President Dr. Carlos Vargas. "We strive to remove barriers and provide clear and accessible pathways to earning a high-quality bachelor’s degree."
Brooke Lockhart, assistant director of the Transfer Center, said, "Our Transfer Mentor Program has been instrumental in helping students adjust to campus life and succeed academically. The positive feedback and outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach."
Universities are judged on 40 metrics related to transfer students’ support and success—including bachelor’s degree completion rates, percentage of transfer students enrolled, number of transfer credits allowed, and how welcome transfer students feel. Only the top 25% of colleges are selected.
"As we continue to innovate and adapt to the evolving needs of our students, SEMO remains committed to providing support and opportunities for transfer students," Lockhart said. "Being named to the PTK Honor Roll is an honor and underscores our dedication to making higher education accessible and attainable for all."
Lockhart said the recognition reflects SEMO’s mission to create a nurturing and effective academic environment, making it a top choice for transfer students nationwide.
