The Redhawk debate team competed in the Knights Invitational debate tournament at Indiana Math and Science Academy in Indianapolis.
Four teams represented Southeast with two teams in the open division of crossfire and two individuals in the novice division of rapidfire.
Olivia Fensterman and Jaina Bemis, both juniors, won first overall in the open crossfire division with Olivia winning first place speaker and Jaina fifth place speaker. In novice rapidfire, Gus Eby placed fifth overall and took the fifth place speaker award. As a result of these wins, our Redhawks won the third place sweepstakes award.
The tournament occurred over two days and consisted of up to eight separate debates. Every team must argue for both the affirmative and negative of the resolution which is decided just moments before each debate begins. This semester's topic for the crossfire division is resolved: societies benefit from organized religion.
