Art and Life an exhibition of paintings by students in the Diversion Program of the Juvenile Office of Cape County will be on view from Monday, Aug. 1 through Friday, Aug. 12 at Catapult Creative House.

The Diversion Program is coordinated by Deputy Juvenile Officer Kindal Al Arnaout of the Cape County Police Department. She believes that creating art allows children to work through feelings and emotions such as depression. From improving communication and motor skills to helping develop a sense of self, there are many reasons why art is important for children.

An opening reception for Art and Life will take place on Friday, Aug. 5 from 5-7:30 p.m. at Catapult Creative House.

The exhibition is free and open to the public. Attendees are welcome to tour the entire Catapult facilities including the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Art and Design students’ studios upstairs. Visitors are also invited to browse the merchandise in the Shoppe, which features student work and local business products.

Catapult Creative House is located at 612 Broadway, Cape Girardeau, MO. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. All gallery exhibitions, events and talks are free and open to the public.
