‘Spring into Dance’ Showcasing Southeast Student Talents and Work by Nationally Recognized Choreographer

Experience the exciting performances of The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance’s annual “Spring into Dance,” featuring an original dance work by nationally recognized choreographer Emily Schoen Branch.

Image of "Spring Into Dance" 2022 logo.“Spring Into Dance” will be held at 7:30 p.m. April 7-9 and April 10 at 2 p.m. in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus. 

“Branch’s work is engaging and energetic. Audiences will be delighted by her combination of movement and spatial design that flows seamlessly together,” stated Hilary Peterson, associate professor and coordinator of dance.

The concert will also showcase several pieces in collaboration with the Southeast Percussion Ensemble as well as a variety of additional works by faculty choreographers including classical ballet and contemporary jazz.  

“The work of our faculty and student choreographers continues to amaze and audiences will again be delighted with the variety of dance styles and talents of our dancers,” Peterson stated.

Guest Choreographer Biography:

Branch is a sought-after choreographer and educator and was named “Top 25 to Watch” in 2011 by Dance Magazine. She has been selected as the Martha Duffy Resident Artist from Baryshnikov Arts Center. She won the Gibney Dance boo-koo grant for emerging artist in New York City; and a Princess Grace Fellowship nomination by METdance; and various residencies including at the Tunisian National Theater. Branch was awarded commissions for Santa Barbara Dance Theater, METdance (Houston, Texas), Ormao (Colorado Springs, Colorado), and Columbia Ballet Collaborative (New York). As a freelance dancer, Emily has worked for Kyle Abraham/AIM; Nejla Yatkin; and for eight years with Keigwin + Company.
