Sarah Glover Presenting Michael Davis Lecture Feb. 11

Sarah Glover

Sarah Glover, president of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and social media editor for NBC, will present Southeast Missouri State Universitys 23rd annual Michael Davis Lecture Monday, Feb. 11.

Glovers lecture is scheduled from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Forrest H. Rose Theatre in Grauel Building. This event is free and open to the public and is one of several Black History Month events at Southeast.

Glover will discuss current trends in the media industry and provide an update on the NABJs Black Male Media Project, an initiative to help change the narrative around the lives and images of black men in the news and in society.

The Michael Davis Lecturerecognizes the contributions of African Americans in the media. The eventhonors the late Michael Davis, a journalism student at Southeast who died as a result of a hazing incident. In 1997, the then Department of Mass Communication held the first Michael Davis Lecture to honor his memory as part of the Universitys Black History Month activities. More than 150 faculty, staff and students regularly attend the annual event.

This event is sponsored by the Department of Mass Media.

Gloverhas served as president of the National Association of Black Journalists since 2015, and is the social media editor at NBC Owned Television Stations (OTS) based at 30 Rock in New York City, New York. Prior to joining NBC OTS, Glover worked at NBC10 Philadelphia from 2012-2014, thePhiladelphia Daily News from 2008-2012, andThe Philadelphia Inquirerfrom 1999-2008.

Glover led thePhiladelphia Daily News video team on the Pulitzer Prize-winning Tainted Justice series, which resulted in a federal investigation of the Philadelphia Police Department. She covered PopeFrancis historic visit to the United States, and documented his address to world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. She traveled to the Middle East in 2016 to contribute to the discourse shaping 21stcentury journalismat the World Media Summit in Doha, Qatar.Glover has also been a freelance photographer for two decades and her work has appeared inJetmagazine,TheWashington Post andBlack Enterprise.

Glover has been awarded fellowships from the Kiplinger Program in Public Affairs Journalism and Knight Digital Media Center. She has a passion for developing the next generation of journalists and broadening the skills of veteran journalists. She founded the “Diverse Social Media Editors & Digital Journalists” Facebook group, a platform for education, advocacy and training for journalists of color. She’s a graduate ofSyracuseUniversitys S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications where she earned two bachelor’s degrees in photojournalism and African American Studies. She earned a masters degree in communication studies from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
