World War I will be the topic of the Oct. 30 Historic Tuesday Talk at 7 p.m. in the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State Universitys River Campus.
Gary Tyler, outreach specialist at the museum, will give the presentation, which is free and open to the public.
Tyler will present an overview of the Great War and explains new technologies used, and why the U.S. celebrate Veterans Day on Nov. 11. Following the presentation, Tyler will lead a tour of the Southeast Explorers World War I exhibit which consists of 12 different stations about World War I with items on display from France, Germany, England and the U.S. for visitors to enjoy.
Tyler earned a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Christian educationfrom Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, a Bachelor of Science in elementary educationfrom Central Methodist College at Mineral Area in Park Hills, Missouri, and a Master of Arts in Christian education from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield.
As the Crisp Museums outreach specialist, Tyler operates the Southeast ExplorerMobile Museum, traveling to 25 counties in the University’s service area to bring the museum to students. Along with presenting the rotating exhibits, Tyler also distributes supplementary teaching materials to the teachers.
The Historic Tuesday Talk series will take place on select Tuesdays at the Crisp Museum through Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. The talks will consist of short, informational presentations and discussion sessions, and topics can include movements, Civil War, World War I, riverboats, railroads, socio-cultural issues, space exploration, regional history, natural resources, fossils, geology and more.
