Southeast Missouri State Universitys Department of Music presents the Percussion Ensembles Family Holiday Concert on Saturday, Dec. 2.The 10th year for this holiday tradition continues the River Campuss commitment to offering a variety of family entertainment. This eventwill take place in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeasts River Campus. The first performance will start at 10:30 a.m. and the second will begin at 2 p.m. Admission is free.I am very excited to see that what was just an ideaI had in early 2008 has become a holiday tradition for so many in our community and has continued to grow each and every year, said Dr. Shane Mizicko, professor of music and director of percussion ensemble, drum line and front ensemble. Each year I strive to keep some of the traditional repertoire as well as expand into new repertoire and new guest performers.The Southeast Aerial Dance Ensemble and the Southeast Drum Line and Front Ensemble will be performing with the Percussion Ensemble.This is the first time that the Southeast Drum Line and Front Ensemble will be featured. They will be playing an exciting rendition of the traditional Drummer Boy as well as a new arrangement of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra version of Carol of the Bells, said Mizicko. This is also the first time that the Southeast Aerial Dance Ensemble will be featured. They will be dancing on the floor as well as suspended above the stage floor to a beautiful arrangement of I Wonder as I Wander and We Three Kings.Holiday classic songs such as Do you Hear What I Hear, Star of Wonder, and Christmas Time is Here, will be played. Also, the traditional slide shows will be featured adding even more visual excitement to the kid favorite songs such as Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and The Polar Express. Many of these songs encourage the audience to participate with egg-shaker play-alongs and sing-along songs.Complimentary milk and cookies will be provided for the children following the concert. Coloring activities will also be available.In total, there will be more than 45 performers involved in the concert and even more volunteers helping with the milk and cookies, egg shaker sales, pre-concert lobby music and more.
