Hosted by Southeasts Interior Design Program, the event will feature a 60-minute initial consultation between students and their clients followed by another 60-minute design recommendation on April 30. Clients must apply to secure a scheduled appointment. Initial consultations and design recommendations will take place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on their respective days via a scheduled appointment.

Those offering their expertise for the event are as follows:

Abigayle Emily, a Southeast junior from Hillsboro, Mo., is studying biology and interior design.

The best way for me to describe my design style is colorful and eccentric, she said. Often in designs, I enjoy including bright colors, bold patterns, unconventional objects, and many different textures. With this, I believe my strengths in design are color selection, spatial awareness, fixture selection, and animal safety and durability. I am excited to share what I have learned and my passion of design with others.

Samantha Park of Troy, Missouri, is an interior design major who is minoring in architectural design and business administration.

My personal design styles would be best described as traditional, contemporary, and rustic. I like to combine neutral tones with contrasting color schemes within my designs, she said. My design strengths include effective communication, space planning, creativity, product selection and detail orientation. In my previous experience, I have designed a rustic kitchen for my grandparents renovation, and I have also remodeled my mothers kitchen, living room, dining room and master bathroom. With my undying passion for design, I will be sure to provide the guidance and advice you need for your space.

Dona Gurung graduated from Purbanchal University (Kathmandu, Nepal) with a bachelor’s degree in interior design. When she began her studies, interior design was a new professional field, and only one college provided this area of study in Nepal. Therefore, after completing three years of an interior design program in Nepal, Gurung decided to further her studies in the United States. Before coming to the United States, she worked as an assistant marketing manager and interior designer at CE Company.

She joined Southeast Missouri State University in fall 2011 as a transfer student and graduated in fall 2014. She became a member of the Interior Design Student Association, National Kitchen and Bath Design Association (NKBA) and Sustainable Students Organization (SSO). She also worked as an interior design lab assistant for two semesters while completing her undergraduate degree. During 2014, while she was completing her bachelor’s degree, she completed an internship with Southfork Lighting. She worked as a lighting designer and also managed various sales activities and daily store activities. She is currently pursuing a masters degree in human environmental studies and is completing an internship with Cape Area Habitat for Humanity where she is focusing on home design.

Dr. Michelle Brune, professor of human environmental studies at Southeast, has been teaching in the Interior Design Program since 2003. Her professional work experience includes four years of experience as a building maintenance manager and project manager at Facilities Management at Southeast Missouri State University. Brune is a certified interior designer.

Carol Nesler, a Southeast instructor, has been teaching in the Interior Design Program since 2000. She is the NKBA Program coordinator for the Interior Design Program and is an accreditation evaluator for the National Kitchen and Bath Association. She is the faculty advisor to the NKBA Student Chapter and the Interior Design Student Association. Nesler also is the international travel coordinator for the Interior Design Program. Nesler has her own design business — Pineapple Place — and consults with only a few clients each year.
