At SEMO, field experiences extend across the world, giving teacher candidates the opportunity to develop their skills, broaden their perspective, and build the kind of cultural competency that sets them apart.

SEMO's student teaching abroad program includes placement opportunities at Eagles College in Iquique, Chile. In this program, you'll spend a semester immersed in a new classroom, a new community, and a new way of thinking about education. At SEMO, we prepare you to teach anywhere, and teach well.

Student teaching abroad Requirements:

• Students must complete 60 full days of student teaching in Missouri
• Students will student teach in the spring semester only

• Early Childhood
  • Preschool beginning at age three through 3rd grade 
• Elementary 
  • Grades 1 through 6 

Student teaching abroad Placements:

• There are only four available placements

1. Airfare

• Approximately $3,500, including trip insurance.
• Please realize an additional flight is necessary to reach Iquique from Santiago. 

2. Meals and Daily Expenses

• Faculty dine at school during the lunch break.
• Student teachers should budget to bring a meal from “home” daily.
• Host families will provide some meals.
• In addition, students should plan for sightseeing, surfing, and other “fun” expenses.
• A typical budget would be between $1,000 and $1,500.

3. Passport

• Incurred at the expense of the student.
• Obtaining a passport is a lengthy process.
• Please plan to allow approximately 12 weeks to obtain a passport.

4. Housing Info

• Students are sponsored by host families of children attending Eagles’ College at no cost.
