What makes something a home? The people. And when Southeast is your home, you’re going to find a family. Whether it’s a roommate, a classmate, a coworker, or someone you happened to meet, finding your Southeast family has never been so easy.
Get Out There
Turns out, if you don’t leave your room, the only person you will meet is your roommate. This can be great in and of itself, but be sure to visit some other social spots on campus. Hang out in your residence hall’s lounge, do some homework at Starbucks, or join someone at one of our dining locations.
Join An Organization
Getting involved is one of the best ways to find your Southeast family. Whether it’s Greek Life, Student Government, Student Activities Council, intramural sports, or one of our nearly 200 organizations, you’re sure to find one that you love. Our student organizations are full of wonderful students, and you may find some of your family by joining.
Sign Up For Different Classes
Even though we all come from different backgrounds, we all have one thing in common: needing to graduate with 120 hours. If you have some flexibility in your schedule, take a class that’s outside your major content area as an elective. Whether it’s rock-climbing, yoga, an introductory class on a subject you’re interested in, or a class that travels together (i.e. Colorado, Washington, D.C., and Europe), there are so many different options, and you’ll meet so many new people.
Be Yourself
College is full of new people and new experiences. One of the best ways to take advantage of your time here (and find your family) is to be you. Be wonderfully, authentically, genuinely you. If you do what you love and enjoy yourself, it will show, and finding your people will come naturally.
