Southeast Missouri State University has successfully surpassed its $60 million Transforming Lives comprehensive fundraising campaign more than a year ahead of schedule, thanks in part to strong support during the University’s 2026 Giving Day on March 19. Giving Day 2026 exceeded its goal of $360,000 with $378,379 raised.

“Universities are about people, and SEMO is certainly focused on our students,” said SEMO President Dr. Brad Hodson. “That dedication was reflected back to us yesterday when our alumni and friends supported the University so enthusiastically this Giving Day. For their generosity which helped us achieve the milestone of completing the Transforming Lives campaign, we are incredibly grateful.”

To date, the Transforming Lives campaign has raised:

  • More than $21 million for scholarships
  • More than $19 million for academic programs and units
  • More than $8 million in unrestricted support
  • More than $5 million for athletics
  • Nearly $1.5 million for university funds
  • More than $600,000 for various University initiatives
Together, these contributions are helping expand access to education, strengthen academic offerings and enhance opportunities for students across campus.

“Transforming Lives has always been about investing in students and the future of this institution, and it’s inspiring to see so many people step forward to make that possible,” said Wendell Snodgrass, vice president of University Advancement and executive director of the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

Snodgrass credited many individuals and groups whose leadership helped guide the campaign from its earliest days through its successful conclusion.

“We are deeply grateful to the many people who helped lead and support this effort,” he said. “Former Vice President for University Advancement Trudy Lee helped launch the campaign and set its vision, and our dedicated University Advancement staff worked tirelessly to carry that vision forward. Our campaign steering committee co-chaired by Bill and Susan Shaffer and Janet and Patrick Ruopp provided outstanding leadership, and the continued support of the Foundation Board and the Board of Governors has been critical throughout the process.”

The campaign support has funded numerous initiatives across campus, including the Vollink Family Observatory, the Charles Stamp Cyber Command Center, nursing simulation manikins, EDvolution Center updates and food pantry support among many others designed to strengthen programs and expand opportunities for students.

Giving Day, SEMO’s annual celebration of philanthropy, provided a final boost of support that helped push the campaign across the finish line.

“Giving Day captures the spirit of the SEMO community,” Snodgrass said. “It brings together alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends who all share a commitment to helping students succeed.”

Snodgrass said the work of helping students succeed is never done, and while celebrating this achievement, the Foundation will now turn its attention to the future.

“Finishing the campaign ahead of schedule gives us tremendous momentum,” Snodgrass said. “It allows us to look ahead and begin aligning philanthropic priorities with the University’s next strategic plan, ensuring we continue building opportunities that benefit our students and region.”
