The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Governors approved several academic program changes as well as authorized the University to proceed with awarding a contract for the Brandt Hall demolition.
Animal Science
SEMO’s agribusiness: animal science program has been approved to transition into a standalone Bachelor of Science in animal science. This allows flexibility for students who want to emphasize the business side of agriculture or pursue pre-veterinary studies. The change positions the program to meet a wider range of workforce needs and support enrollment growth.
Marketing Management
A new MBA in marketing management option has been approved within the Master of Business Administration program. Demand for specialized MBA programs continues to grow nationally as employers seek professionals with advanced expertise in targeted areas. SEMO’s marketing management option responds to industry needs in digital marketing, marketing analytics, consumer insights and brand strategy.
Network Security
SEMO’s addition of a Master of Science in network security integrates advanced networking and cybersecurity competencies, preparing students to enter a high-demand workforce in both public and private sectors. Cybersecurity is one of the fastest growing industries, with a workforce demand that is estimated to rise nearly 30% in the next decade.
Film Production
SEMO’s TV and film program has long attracted students interested in journalism, broadcasting and cinematic storytelling. An independent Bachelor of Science in film production provides an option focused more strongly on storytelling, production skills and portfolio development. Television will be combined with the mass communications: multimedia journalism program.
These academic program changes respond to workforce trends, student interest and industry demand. The changes expand opportunities for students in agriculture, business, cybersecurity and media production. All new program changes will be reviewed by the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education for final approval.
Brandt Hall
SEMO will award contracts to Courtney Construction and American Asbestos Abatement/Midwest Services Group for the demolition of Brandt Hall. Brandt Hall is currently vacant, and work would take place through the spring and summer with completion anticipated by the start of the fall 2026 semester.
