Southeast Missouri State University’s Board of Governors authorized the administration to proceed with awarding a contract to Penzel Construction during its meeting today for a South Chiller Plant to be built.
The 12,785-square-foot facility will include two 800-ton centrifugal chillers, two primary chilled water pumps, three secondary chilled water pumps, two condenser water pumps, and two roof-mounted cooling towers. The new facility is expected to increase the plant cooling capacity while saving operating costs. The current South Chiller plant, located in Kent Library, provides cooling for the south side of campus and is nearing the end of its operational lifespan. The new facility will be constructed behind the future Roy Blunt Health Professions Hall.
A bid opening was held on Oct. 30, with the total estimated cost at $18,159,650 which will be funded utilizing capital funds appropriated to the University by the State of Missouri. Construction is anticipated to be completed by late 2027.
