Headspace, an exhibition of works by Erin Ashwell, will be on view from Monday, August 15 through Friday, September 2 at Catapult Creative House.
Erin Ashwell was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She is currently a student at Southeast Missouri State University, working towards a BFA with an emphasis in graphic design and printmaking.
This exhibition addresses disassociation, which has become part of Ashwell’s daily life, often requiring her to put her life on hold. She is affected by a subcategory of disassociation called depersonalization, which is a feeling of observing your body as if you were an outsider causing you to feel as though you are not real. She responded to these persistent feelings with this body of work. In many of the pieces, the subject’s face is covered, representing the loss of self through depersonalization.

Each month and as a part of a program to promote community based and integrated art making, a student artist is chosen to exhibit his or her work at Catapult Creative House’s Student Studio Gallery. These exhibitions will showcase a range of work from individual artists that highlights their personal and professional artistic explorations as a part of the Southeast Missouri art community. These artists explore the physicality of the human condition, its relationship to nature, and the role of art in contemporary society. In addition to the exhibition, attendees are welcome to tour the studio spaces, view ongoing projects, and engage with the artists.
A closing reception for Headspace will take place September 2, from 5 - 9 p.m.
