Southeast Missouri State University students supported the community that serves as their home away from home with fundraisers as well as food and blood drives, in the annual Greek Week celebration.
Southeast Greeks raised $29,570 in the spirit of philanthropy to support the local community with nearly $7,000 raised in just an hour and a half as part of “Money Madness,” Greek Week’s premiere donation event.
The money will benefit a number of local nonprofit organizations, including:
- Dream Factory
- Hope for One More
- One City
- Community Partnership of Southeast Missouri
- SEMO NASV
- Educare
- Voices for Children
Another highlight of Southeast Greek Week is its annual blood drive, one of the largest in our region. This year the blood drive collected more than 870 units that were donated to the American Red Cross.
In addition, Southeast’s Greek community collected more than 5,000 articles of clothing and nearly 9,000 canned goods and personal hygiene products to support the Redhawk Food Pantry.
Other Greek Week events included the Greek Games and Chariot Races, Walk-A-Mile Sexual Assault Awareness program, Greek Sing, God and Goddess Competition and various spirit and community service activities.
Greek Week concluded with the all chapter meeting, bringing together more than 1,000 fraternity and sorority members. During this annual meeting awards for chapter of the year, community service awards, and other awards recognizing the work of many students were presented.
