“Small Quilts Welcome Spring,” an exhibition of locally created quilts celebrating the spring season, opens March 18 in the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.
The exhibition will be on display through March 27 and admission is free.
The exhibit features the following:
- Three Yard Quilts, which use three separate values of fabrics – light, medium and dark – to make the quilt’s blocks, pieces, borders and binding.
- Children’s utility quilts by local quilter Beth Vegiard.
- Mini quilts by Karla Kiefner, owner of The Quilting Bee in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, featuring both beautiful sides of fabric.
- Embroidery panels from Nature Needlers, a local embroidery group through the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center.
- Applique on quilts, runners, table toppers and more from the Wooly Gals of SE Missouri, a local group of wool workers.
During the exhibit, visitors may vote for their favorite in the Welcome Spring Quilt Contest.
A closing reception will be held March 27 from 1-4 p.m. with an old fashioned quilt show, or “Bed Turning.” People's Choice, First, Second and Third Place winners of the contest will be announced at 2 p.m.
The Crisp Museum is located inside Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus at 518 S. Fountain St., Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Admission is free. Museum hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 1-4 p.m. on weekends.
