Southeast Missouri State University’s Department of History and Anthropology will feature the work of public history graduate students in two virtual exhibits launching Dec. 6.
A free, opening reception will be held Dec. 6 at 1 p.m. in Sadie’s Place in Kent Library. Refreshments will be provided.
The graduate students completed the exhibits as part of a “Problems in Historic Preservation: Archives” course taught by Dr. Lily Santoro, associate professor of history and anthropology, and a partnership with the Bollinger Center for Regional History and Special Collections and Archives at Kent Library.
Throughout the fall semester, the students worked closely with Southeast’s Special Collections and Archives to identify collections that merit public attention and create online exhibits that will encourage researchers to view the materials online as well as in-person.
The first exhibit features the Charles L. Duncan Papers, which offer a glimpse into the life of a local veteran and Southeast alumnus whose service spanned the years of World War II and the Korean War.
The second exhibit showcases the Weingarten Prisoner of War Camp Collection. This collection features materials created and produced by the Italian POWs and the American GIs who served at the World War II prison camp that was located outside Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, between 1942 and 1945.
Both exhibits will be available on the Special Collections and Archives website on Dec. 6.
