Southeast Missouri State University will observe National Suicide Prevention Week with a Health and Wellness Resource Fair Sept. 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the University Centers third floor lobby and Program Lounge.
The fair, sponsored by The Center for Behavioral Health and Accessibility, will feature campus organizations, departments and community partners with information, resources and interaction that support health, mental health and wellness. STI (sexually transmitted infection) testing, as well as tools for self-assessment of health behaviors, will also be offered to students.
The theme of this years event is SEMO STRONG Campus and Community.
At Southeast, we are fortunate to have preventative and treatment resources on campus, in addition to strong relationships with our community health and mental health partners, said John Nimmo, substance use counselor with Southeasts Center for Behavioral Health and Accessibility. The focus on this years event is to encourage students to prioritize their health, mental health, well-being and safety needs. The event is also planned to increase awareness of resources available on campus and in the community.
All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. Face coverings are required.
The Center for Behavioral Health and Accessibility (CBHA) is located in Crisp Hall Rooms 201 and 202. In addition to the individual and group counseling services and other resources for mental health and wellness, CBHA encourages access by students to online suicide prevention trainings at asklistenrefer.org/semo and engagement in Southeasts online mental wellness program at bodyu.org.
The Counselor Training Clinic, located in Scully Building Room 318, provides confidential mental health counseling services by graduate practicum and internship students. The clinic also offers outreach presentations and mental health screenings on campus. Resources are available at semo.edu/_archive/eduleadcounsel/counselor-training-clinic.
Additionally, Redhawk Health Educators, certified peer educators, provide peer support and outreach events on topics concerning mental health, wellness and prevention topics. For a list of upcoming events, visit semo.edu/peered/special-events.
