Southeast Missouri State University has been awarded the 2021-2022 Military Friendly Spouse School designation.
The Spouse School designation is a prominent continuation of the Universitys rankings from Military Friendly, which also recently awarded Southeast a 2021-2022 Top 10 Schools and Gold designation.
A Spouse School designation recognizes the Universitys commitment to not only serve veterans but also their families and dependents, said Amanda Woods, Military and Veterans Services Officer with Southeasts Office of Military and Veteran Services (OMVS).
While we know that Service Members may have a difficult time transitioning into the academic setting, we also recognize that they are not alone in that transition, and we see the military family as a very important unit that needs just as much support, she said. Whether theyre a first generation student trying to understand and navigate university processes or if theyre trying to gain an understanding of what benefits theyre entitled to and how to use them, the OMVS is there to assist the entire military family through their experience with Southeast.
Southeast is listed among the nations top higher education institutions for leading practices, outcomes, and effective programs for military spouses.
The Military Friendly Rating specifically highlighted Southeasts OMVS, located on the third floor of the University Center. The Office helps align military-affiliated students with on- and off-campus resources, and provides targeted support and services to help students find success.
Spouses and dependents are a significant segment of the Universitys military-affiliated student population, and the OMVS is dedicated to acknowledging the unique needs of this group and provide services and resources that can assist them in reaching their personal and academic goals, Woods said.
We strive to ensure spouses and dependents are a key component of our overall mission to serve and the provide quality services and support, she said. We will continue to refine processes, implement procedures, and seek partnerships across campus and in the community that would serve this population to the best of our abilities.
