Beginning Feb. 28, Exhibiting Excellence, the 43rdAnnual High School Art Exhibition, an invitational juried art exhibit for 11thand 12thgrade students in southeast Missouri and southern Illinois, will be displayed in theRosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museumat Southeast Missouri State Universitys River Campus.
The exhibit will be on display through March 28, and admission is free. Face coverings will be required, and social distancing guidelines will be in place.
The high school exhibit showcases the amazing talent of local students and provides young artists an opportunity to display their work and received professional and local recognition, said Jim Phillips, museum manager and senior curator.
Their artwork is a testament to their abilities and skills, as well as the dedication and encouragement of their teachers, he said. This must-see exhibition celebrates the students hard work and encourages their future artistic abilities.
This years awards will be announced online at semo.edu/museum beginning Feb. 28.
First-, second- and third-place awards will be presented in the categories of sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, mixed media, photography, fibers, drawing and painting. Additionally, Art Academy and Best of Show Awards will be presented. The recipient of the Studio Visual Art Award will receive a scholarship to attend the Universitys summer Studio of Visual Art workshop, and the recipient of the Best in Show Award will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend Southeast as an art major.
This years juror will be Louise Bodenheimer. In addition to being a Southeast professor and area head of graphic design and illustration, Bodenheimer is a practicing artist. She
has exhibited her illustration/artwork in solo and group shows regionally and nationally and has been published in Missouri Life Magazine. She has designed and illustrated several publications and was the designer of the Musical Heritage Mural on the Shivelbines Music Store building in downtown Cape Girardeau.
She holds Master of Fine Arts degrees in graphic design and painting, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting. She has collaborated with Southeasts Department of Music in providing digital backdrops for various performances, and has designed brand collateral for the annual River Campus Summer Arts Festival since 2013. Her professional graphic design work, along with that of her students, has received various awards through the American Advertising Federation in the tri-state area.

The Crisp Museum is located in the Cultural Arts Center at Southeast Missouri State Universitys River Campus, located at 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, 1-4 p.m. on weekends and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the first Friday of the month.
