Five members of Southeast Missouri State Universitys Marching Band have been selected to be part of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) Intercollegiate Marching Band.

Nicholas Kenney, assistant professor of horn and assistant director of bands, said, These students have a long history of being high caliber performers and people in the Southeast Marching Band. All of these students have helped to make this crazy season successful in many ways.

Kenney recommended each student to the CBDNA by submitting a recommendation form rating their skills.

Southeast students selected for the CBDNA Intercollegiate Marching Band include:

• Anthony Kandilaroff, a three-year band member and flute player from Maryland Heights, Missouri
• Doug Evans, a four-year band member and snare player from Hillsboro, Missouri
• Christopher Mosher, a one-year band member and trumpet player from OFallon, Missouri
• Lauren Zygmont, a three-year band member and trumpet player from St. Louis, Missouri
• Trudy Burnham, a four-year band member and sousaphone player from Germantown, Wisconsin

Evans said, Im honored to represent Southeast in the Intercollegiate Marching Band. My favorite thing about marching at Southeast is the people. Everyone puts in the work needed so we can have a good time.

Zygmont said, Being selected for this honor means that I am able to represent not only my individual hard work but also the collective hard work that the marching band is doing here at Southeast. I love being in the marching band because I have many friends through marching band, and because I enjoy getting to perform for people and show them our hard work.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CBDNA is creating a virtual experience for this years Intercollegiate Marching Band performance. The five Southeast honorees will submit recorded performances playing their instruments. CBDNA will edit the video clips into one video with other outstanding musicians from across the country. The final product will be shown at halftime of the NCAAs College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship Game on Jan. 11, 2021.

Kenney said, Our students consistently produce quality work that is worthy of national and international acclaim. This is just another example of music students here making music on a level that is comparable to or even greater than at larger institutions. This puts Southeast students alongside their peers from other institutions on a national stage.
