Southeast will be featured in the Degrees with Less Debt (DWLD) video Policy for the People at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21.Southeast is among five Missouri universities highlighted in the Degrees with Less Debt: Postsecondary Strategies that Enhance Low-Income and Black Student Success report released this summer by St. Louis Graduates.The Degrees with Less Debt video series focuses on the barriers facing low-income students and Black students and what colleges and universities can do to create a higher education system that supports these students.Each episode includes interviews with administrators and students from each of the five institutions highlighted in the report and community partners.The final episode of the series, Policy for the People, focuses on the cultural aspects of the black and brown student experience and the antithesis of these experiences compared to their peers. Specifically, zoning in on institution curriculum, support services and how participating Universities are adopting policies for a changing student body.The episode will feature Valdis Zalite, director of Southeast's TRIO Programs, and Raven Cole, a member of Southeasts McNair Scholars Program and senior pursuing a major in criminal justice with minors in Spanish and political science.
