Southeast Missouri State University will observe Healthy Sexuality Month Sept. 23 with in-person and virtual activities to promote healthy and safe sexual behaviors for members of the campus community.
Approximately 80% of Southeast students self-report that they are sexually active, said Donna St. Sauver, Campus Violence Prevention Program (CVPP) coordinator and peer educator adviser at Southeast. We want Southeast students to have the information they need to be responsible in their interpersonal relationships. Healthy sexuality is key factor in the prevention of sexual violence and abuse.
Redhawks Peer Educators will facilitate discussions and activities about consent, communicating sexual preferences, boundaries, birth control and more on Zoom (Room Meeting ID: 282 281 7821; Passcode: consent).
- 11 a.m. – “First Things First: Healthy Sexuality Starts with Consent” presented by peer educator and Southeast student Taylor Meyers
- 11:20 a.m. – “Yes, No, Maybe: Setting Sexual Boundaries” presented by peer educator and Southeast student Alexa Biri
- 11:40 a.m. – “Kahoot! Sex at SEMO: Healthy Sexuality Game” presented by peer educator and Southeast student Sydney Tippett-Lock
- Noon – “Lets Talk About Sex: Assertiveness and Communication” presented by peer educator and Southeast student Emily Heinlein
- 12:20 p.m. – “Everything You Need to Know About Birth Control” presented by peer educator and Southeast student Bailey Workman
- 12:40 p.m. – “Ending with Orgasm: Communicating Desires Activity” presented by peer educator and Southeast student Sophia Davis
Students who attend a Zoom session will receive a code for a free consent T-shirt from Missouri Partners in Prevention which reads, Consent: It gets easier as you practice. The T-shirts will be available for pick up in the University Center Lobby along with 200 pre-made healthy sexuality kits sponsored by the Campus Violence Prevention Program of the Center for Behavior Health and Accessibility and the Butler County Health Center. The kits will contain information and a quiz on healthy relationships, services available to students at Southeast, condoms, lube and more.
Additionally, the Butler County Health Center will provide free STI/D from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the University Center second floor.
