Dr. Debbie Below, vice president for enrollment management and student success, delivered a report on the Fall 2020 Census Enrollment to the at the Board of Regents meeting Sept. 25.

Below highlighted the University reached a new milestone in the retention of first year students this fall, with 80% first-time, full-time students have re-enrolled. This goal was set five years ago, and thanks to staff and faculty across campus, that goal has been met this fall, she said.

Total headcount at the institution is down 6%, however, the decline in full-time equivalent enrollment of 5% was less than projected as part of the budget review process, she said.

Below saidnew, first-time enrollment has declined 1%. However a 13% decline was projected in March 2020, and despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and thanks to the efforts of staff and faculty, the institution was able to prevent this, she said.

The percentage headcount who identify as a member of a minority race or ethnic group increased to 14%, Below said.
