TheRosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museumat Southeast Missouri State Universitys River Campus will host Heritage Day on Oct. 3 with history events and speakers.
The Crisp Museum will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.Face coverings will be required, and social distancing guidelines will be in place.
Visitors can learn about the Mississippian first peoples; the Civil War; Little River Drainage District;and Emerson Bridge. A recurring curator talk will highlight the Inland Waterways mural by Gary Lucy.
Two guest speakers will be on hand to discuss the highlights of their digital presentations that visitors will be able to view at their leisure:
- Richard Flentge, local historian and story teller, interprets the importance of innovation used byGen. Ulysses S.Grant, who was given command of all troops in southeast Missouriand what transpired before, during and after his time inCape Girardeau, Missouri.
- Randy Greeves, Southeast graduate student pursuing a Master of Arts in public history, explores the history of pandemics that have impacted Cape Girardeaus population in Past Pandemics and How a Community Survives.
From1-2:30 p.m.Southeasts Steel Drum Band led byDr. Shane Mizicko, director of percussion and professor of music, will perform outside the Cultural Arts Center, weather permitting.
As a Trick-Art-Treat activity, visitors can customize moon paintings with glow paint and silhouettes.
Visitors can also participate in theCrisp Museums annual scavenger hunt for 36 items hidden among the exhibits in the history gallery to win the Cauldron of Candy. The winner will be announced after Oct. 31.
