Southeast Students Honored with Power of Women Scholarships

Ten Southeast Missouri State University students have been honored with Power of Women Scholarships.The recipients areElizabeth Bangert of Coldwater, Missouri; Vickie Bollinger of Jackson, Missouri; Victoria Davis of Memphis, Tennessee; Marquee Gibbons of Ceder Hill, Missouri; Jamie Glastetter of Scott City, Missouri; Keasha Hubbert of Dexter, Missouri; Grace Lay of Crystal City, Missouri; Amanda Lively of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Sarah Mullinix of Wildwood, Missouri; and Elaine Myers of Edwardsville, Illinois.Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ninth annual Power of Women luncheon was canceled. Ashley AuBuchon-Arcand, a 2008 Southeast graduate and lead digital activist and executive program manager at IBM, was to have served as this years keynote speaker. This years recipients are being honored with a special video presentation.The Power of Women Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate a passion for a life of service, are attending Southeast full time and have completed at least 30 credit hours with a minimum 2.75 grade point average. Each recipient submitted an application demonstrating significant academic achievement, involvement at the University and commitment to volunteerism and community service. The Power of Women Scholarship Committee selected the recipients based on these factors as well as their future aspirations for success in their career and personal life.[caption id="attachment_35733" align="alignleft" width="300"] Elizabeth Bangert[/caption]Bangert is a junior pursuing a major in animal science with an option in pre-veterinarian medicine, and minors in chemistry and biology. She is a member of Southeasts Agriculture Club Leadership, Collegiate Cattlemen Association, Collegiate FFA Chapter, Collegiate Farm Bureau, Pre-Veterinary Medicine Club and the Delta Tau Alpha Agriculture Honor Society. She is an Emerging Leaders graduate; and was a participant in the 2020 National Cattlemens Convention and Missouri Farm Bureau Ambassador Program. Bangert, who expects to graduate in May 2022, plans to continue her education and earn a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She hopes to, one day, own and operate her own large animal practice clinic.[caption id="attachment_35734" align="alignright" width="300"] Vickie Bollinger[/caption]Bollinger is a junior pursuing a major in art education. She is member of Southeasts Art Guild; participant in Catapult Creative House Pop-Up Shops; and volunteer for the River Campus Summer Arts Festival. She is the recipient of the 2016 Annual Juried Student Exhibitions Drawing Award and 2016 Best of Show at the SEMO District Fair. Bollinger, who expects to graduate in May 2021, hopes to, one day, teach art in the Jackson Public School District. She is married to Steven Joe Bollinger, and is the daughter of the late Melvin Smith and Kathryn Smith Nations, both of Jackson, Missouri. She is a 1980 graduate of Jackson High School.Davis is a senior pursuing a major in cybersecurity. She is a member of the Southeast chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. She is a recipient of the Michael J. Helm Leadership Award and graduate of the Academic Support Centers BRAND Academy. Davis, who expects to graduate in May 2021, hopes to become a penetration tester, evaluating and improving the security of companies software and hardware applications. She is the daughter of Clara Davis of Memphis, Tennessee, and is a 2015 graduate of Southwind High School.[caption id="attachment_35735" align="alignleft" width="300"] Marquee Gibbons[/caption]Gibbons is a senior pursuing a major in dietetics. She is a member of Southeasts McNair Scholars Program and the Jane Stephens Honors Program. She is chair of the Alpha Xi Delta sororitys Health and Wellness Committee; mentor and tutor for University Tutorial Services; and volunteer at the St. Mary Food Pantry and the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Gibbons, who graduates this month, hopes to pursue a masters degree in dietetics and, one day, work in pediatrics. She is the daughter of Mark and Sandee Banderet of House Springs, Missouri, and is a 2016 graduate of Northwest High School.[caption id="attachment_35736" align="alignright" width="300"] Jamie Glastetter[/caption]Glastetter is a senior pursuing a major in biomedical sciences with a minor in chemistry. She is a member of Southeasts Janes Stephens Honors Program and is a volunteer for the Special Olympics, American Red Cross and Cape Girardeau SportsPlex. She is a recipient of the Scott City Alumni Scholarship, Foundation Rotary Golf Tournament Scholarship, Dominic Hooper Memorial Scholarship, American Red Cross Scholarship and Missouri High School Fast Pitch Coaches Association Scholarship. Glastetter, who graduates this month, plans to continue her education and earn a masters degree in genetic counseling. She is the daughter of James and Laurie Glastetter of Benton, Missouri, and is a 2017 graduate of Scott City High School.[caption id="attachment_35737" align="alignleft" width="300"] Keasha Hubbert[/caption]Hubbert is a senior pursuing a major in nursing with a minor is substance abuse prevention. She is a member of Southeasts Gamma Sigma Sigma service sorority and the National Student Nurses Association. She is a nurse extern at SoutheastHEALTH in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Hubbert, who graduates this month, plans to work as a registered nurse and eventually continue her education and earn a masters degree to become a family nurse practitioner. Hubbert is the daughter of Keri Robinson of Dexter, Missouri, and the late Lonnie Belcher. She is a 2015 graduate of Dexter High School.[caption id="attachment_35738" align="alignright" width="300"] Grace Lay[/caption]Lay is a sophomore pursuing a major in communication disorders with a minor in entrepreneurship. She is a member of Southeasts Biology Club, Best Buddies Southeast Chapter and the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She has been named to Southeasts Fall 2019 and Spring 2019 Deans Lists. Lay, who expects to graduate in May 2022, plans to become a speech-language pathologist. She is the daughter of Darren Hambacker of Columbia, Illinois, and Jennifer and Dan Bollinger of Crystal City, Missouri. Lay is a 2018 graduate of Crystal City High School.[caption id="attachment_35739" align="alignleft" width="300"] Amanda Lively[/caption]Lively is a senior pursuing a major in elementary education with a minor in autism studies. She is a member of Southeasts EDhawk Scholars program, Student Missouri State Teachers Association and the Kappa Delta Phi International Education Honor Society. She is a member of Southeasts Beta Psi chapter of the Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity where she has earned the Sturdy Oak, Golden Eagle, Railroader and Distinguished Service Key awards. Lively, who graduates this month,, aspires to become teacher. One day, she hopes to continue her education and earn a masters degree in education. Lively is the daughter of Jeff and Becky Lively of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and is a 2016 graduate of Cape Central High School.[caption id="attachment_35740" align="alignright" width="300"] Sarah Mullinix[/caption]Mullinix is a junior pursuing a major in political science with a minor in philosophy. She is a member of Southeasts Redhawk Debate team, Delta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and the Iota Rho Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society. She is secretary of Southeasts Law, Politics and Society Club and is a volunteer for Hope for One More Home for Children and the Safe House for Women of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Mullinix, who expects to graduate in May 2021, plans to attend law school and aspires to become a lawyer and judge. She also hopes to launch and operate a non-profit benefitting women and men who survive human trafficking and abuse. She is the daughter of Matt and Lynne Mullinix of Grover, Missouri, and is a 2016 graduate of Lafayette Senior High School.[caption id="attachment_35741" align="alignleft" width="300"] Elaine Myers[/caption]Myers is a junior pursuing a major in healthcare administration with a minor in Spanish. She is vice president of Southeasts Iota Chi and is a Resident Assistant. She is a member of Rho Alpha Sigma National Resident Assistant Honor Society, Rho Lambda Honor Society, the National Honors Society of Leadership and Success, and Southeasts Beta Xi Chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. She is a volunteer for the Southeast Food Bank, Redhawk Food Pantry, Auburn Creek Senior Living, the American Red Cross, and local homeless shelters. She is a recipient of the University Scholarship and has been named to the Southeasts Fall 2017, Spring 2018, Spring 2019 and Fall 2019 Deans Lists. Myers, who expects to graduate in May 2021, aspires to manage an eldercare living facility and help ensure the elderly population is receiving quality and compassionate healthcare.
