Southeast Missouri State Universitys College of Education, Health and Human Studies has been renewed as an Apple Distinguished School through 2022, continuing its distinction as a continuously innovative school for learning, teaching and school environment.Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of innovation, leadership and educational excellence that use technology to inspire creativity, collaboration and critical thinking. They showcase innovative uses of technology in learning, teaching and the school environment and have documented results of academic accomplishment.We are extremely proud to earn this prestigious distinction for an additional three years, said Dr. Carlos Vargas, president of Southeast Missouri State University. This is a tremendous achievement that underscores the difference we are making by equipping our teacher education students with the technology skills they need to succeed in integrating technology in a rapidly accelerating classroom environment.Southeasts EDvolution Center is at the heart of Southeasts recognition as an Apple Distinguished School and is the Colleges premier learning laboratory where emerging technology is practiced firsthand. The Center, located in Room 210 on the second floor of the Mark F. Scully Building, is a modern, high-tech Apple-based environment that helps Southeast education majors incorporate Apple technology into their educational practices. Technology available in the EDvolution Center includes a podcasting booth, Mediascapes for collaboration, 3D printing, laser-cutting equipment, a large format poster printer, a virtual reality room, a green screen recording room, The Sandbox room with coding resources, the Jean Ann Whitaker Demonstration Classroom, the Dr. Shelton and Glenda Smith Makerspace, individual study rooms, collaboration spaces, and iMAC and PCs.The EDvolution Center provides support to students to assist them in solving contextual problems in meaningful ways while engaging with technology. The EDvolution Center continuously looks forward to ensure students are afforded opportunities to engage with emerging problem-solving concepts and technologies.In addition, a one-to-one program launched in fall 2014 helps students in the Educator Preparation Program integrate educational technology into their coursework and use a variety of state-of-the-art teaching tools in the EDvolution Center.Our faculty and staff have committed to embracing the infusion of educational technology across our curriculum, said Dr. Daryl Fridley, associate dean for Education Preparation. Receiving this designation is a validation of our good work and recognition of our commitment to preparing the next generation of teachers to be successful.Southeasts designation was renewed based on a rigorous application process, its established one-to-one program, demonstrated innovative uses of and faculty proficiency with iPad and Mac, and documented results.We are at the leading edge of innovation.
