Southeast theatre and dance students performed "Sister Act" in spring 2019.[/caption]Theatre website OnStage Blog has recognized Southeast Missouri State University in its Top 30 College Musical Theatre Programs for 2019-2020.The ranking reflects the mission ofThe Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance as a professional training and liberal arts program providing diverse technique training, professional quality productions, career preparation and a liberal arts education.OnStage Blog is dedicated to Broadway and Community Theatre Show Reviews and regularly highlights esteemed stage directors, actors and technicians.Southeast was named among the top programs based on cost and scholarships, performance and production opportunities, quality of facilities, diversity of students and faculty, post-graduate support, and on/off campus safety. Southeast joins the ranks of other renowned theatre programs that are ranked, including Carnegie Mellon University, New York University Tisch School of the Arts, New York Film Academy and Pace University.When it comes to musical theatre degrees, there are a lot of them offered all over the country - what aspiring students should look for are the programs that are constantly evolving with the industry and not relying on old formulas, according to the blog. In our research this year, we found 30 programs that we feel are truly striving to make sure their students are properly prepared for the realities of the industry in the 2020s.The Conservatorys musical theatre program is a professional training program designed to prepare students for a career in theatre, film and television. The Conservatory is dedicated to providing real-world, experiential learning opportunities, and each year, musical theatre majors have the opportunity to perform in six major, faculty-directed/choreographed productions; four second stage productions; two festivals; four student showcase productions; and numerous cabarets and showcases, and student-directed one-acts and staged readings. There are currently 80 students pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts, musical theatre option.The rigorous training and varied experiences of our musical theatre program provides an excellent foundation for careers in performance and industry positions, said Josh Harvey, instructor of musical theatre. Its wonderful to be recognized as an excellent University and to be in the company of other prestigious institutions and programs. This will hopefully begin to take us into the next phase of growth and quality as a program, attracting an even wider range of talent.Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD) and National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST), The Conservatory is one of the preeminent programs in Southeasts Holland College of Arts and Media.
