Gabriella Yurevich’s “Strung Together”
Catapult Creative House is holding its final Artist of the Month exhibition, Strung Together, featuring the work of Southeast Missouri State University artist Gabriella “Gabby” Yurevich.
The exhibition is currently on display on the second floor of Catapult Creative House and will run through November, with a closing reception to be held from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6.
Strung Together focuses on how the past and future are tied together. Yurevichs mixed media canvases explore the seemingly banal moments of life through color, expressive brush work, and materiality. An art education major from Springfield, Illinois, Yurevich explores how Gods hand plays a role in taking two drastically different moments in life and effortlessly stitches the two into a flawless seam. Just as myriad pieces of red, blue, and orange thread weave throughout each piece, lifes abstract constructs are woven throughout the exhibition. While Yurevichs work focuses on reflection of the past and how it will lead us to the future, it also allows the artist to confidently know her life is in good hands with God on her side, and everything will be alright.
In Adapt, the artist couples bright and bold colors with collaged paper to represent the moments of chaos that can become a part of life. Yet, despite these implications and representations of fear and anxiety, its the vibrant touches of fabric which imbue the work with a sentiment of hope.
Each month and as a part of a program to promote community-based and integrated art making, artists are chosen to exhibit their work at Catapult Creative Houses Gallery. These exhibitions showcase a range of work from individual artists that highlights their personal and professional artistic explorations. These artists explore the physicality of the human condition, its relationship to nature, and the role of art in contemporary society. In addition to the exhibition, visitors are welcome to tour the studio spaces, view ongoing projects and engage with the artists.
