A special program celebrating Veterans Day in honor of Americas fighting men and women will be broadcast by KRCU Public Radio at Southeast Missouri State University from 11 a.m.-noon Monday, Nov. 11.
Hosted and produced by Charlie Warren, A Salute in Song for Veterans Day will begin with the music and history of World War I, then travel through World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.
The hour-long program will also include songs from rock band Steppenwolf; the Navy Band’s Country Current; the BBC Orchestra and Royal Air Force Band; 60s rock group Jefferson Airplane; the Glenn Miller Orchestra; Bette Midler; Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young; country music star Toby Keith; and even selections from Broadway shows, including Phantom of the Opera, The King & I and Hair. A seldom heard talent will also perform a unique song about he Gulf War.
Amid this eclectic mix of music, listeners will witness the hardships of combat and the heartfelt remembrances of D-Day veterans, Vietnam DJ Adrian Cronauer and U.S. Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf. Listeners will hear the voices of former U.S. Presidents Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower and Barack Obama.
