A tale of heroism, treachery, close escapes, and above all, honor, The Three Musketeers will delight audiences in this great coming-of-age story and romantic adventure Sept. 25-29 at Southeast Missouri State Universitys River Campus.
The talented professionals and students of The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance will bring to life this masterful hit play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas.
It recounts the renowned adventures of DArtagnan and his three fellow musketeers, Athos, Porthos and Aramis, as they fight for king and country. On a quest to seek his fortune and become one of the Kings Royal Musketeers, the young and impulsive DArtagnan encounters duels, intrigue, murder, treachery, and love. There are repeated detours involving wine, women and song in this drama that has been acclaimed throughout England.
This rousing, rollicking and epic tale of betrayal, swashbuckling and fun is an extravaganza that audiences will not want to miss. The Three Musketeers comes to Southeast Missouri State Universitys River Campus as a part of the 2019-2020 Rhodes 101 Stops and Commerce Bank Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance Series at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25-28 and 2 p.m. Sept. 28-29 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall.
Dobbins Conservatory is thrilled to kick off the 2019-2020 season with such a wonderful production, said Dr. Kenn Stilson, chair of The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance.
With 20 separate exciting fights, the production provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate their sword and blade stage combat skills, said Bart Williams, assistant professor of theatre and director of the performance.
We have one of the top stage combat training programs in the Midwest, with many of our students being certified as combatants in various areas, and Three Musketeers really gives us a chance to demonstrate their talent, Stilson added.
Additionally, Josh Harvey, instructor of musical theatre and music director for the performance, has composed original music for the production.
Hes composed a score that is both sweepingly cinematic and elevates the text to level of a Marvel family movie, Williams said. It has modern hints, but it really creates a heightened romantic 1625 feel.And the 20-minute diamond-heist ball scene with references to Madonnas 1990 musical hit Vogue will be worth the price of admission.
The Three Musketeers is expected to have audiences on the edge of their seats.
This production is filled with music and adventure, and it has something for everyone, Stilson said. You simply dont want to miss this one.
