Mixed media artist Brigham Dimick, known for creating two-dimensional assemblages, will exhibit his work in the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus Art Gallery in October and November.The exhibit opens on Oct. 4 with a reception planned for 5-7 p.m. An artists talk is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Oct. 5. The exhibit will remain on display through Nov. 8.Dimicks artworks are expansive two-dimensional assemblages that blend old master techniques with abstract compositions. In singular images, he combines landscape, figuration and architecture. The end results are jarring mixed media narratives with a surreal aesthetic.Dimick, associate professor of art and design at Southern Illinois UniversityEdwardsville, received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. He later earned his Master of Fine Art in painting from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.He has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across the country, including Crary Art Gallery, Schmidt Center for the Arts, Gallery 210 and the Regional Arts Commission. Additionally, his artwork has been featured in curated exhibitions at Edwardsville Art Center and Morris University Center Gallery.I think all viewers will find something to appreciate in the artwork of Brigham Dimick, said Justin Miller, associate professor of art and exhibitions coordinator. Not only are his mixed media pieces beautifully composed and meticulously crafted, but the narratives behind his work touch upon universal themes regarding humanity. He provides a lot of visual information within a single image, leaving viewers wanting to keep looking and piecing together more of the story.The River Campus Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the historic Seminary Building in Room 106.
