Dr. Doug Koch
Dr. Doug Koch, vice provost of academic programs and services at the University of Central Missouri (UCM), has been named the new vice provost at Southeast Missouri State University effective Sept. 1.
I am very pleased that Dr. Koch will be joining Southeast as our new Vice Provost, said Dr. Mike Godard, Southeast provost. Dr. Koch was a faculty member and interim chair at Southeast previously and has held several administrative positions since that time that make him a great fit for this position. We are excited to bring him on board and to have him join our team at Southeast.
The vice provost will be the liaison to the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and the Missouri Department of Higher Education. He will oversee critical areas in academic affairs that impact student success, experiential and innovative learning, undergraduate research and scholarship, along with several other areas. In addition, he will be responsible for developing strategic and innovative partnerships with the Universitys vice presidents, deans, faculty, students, staff and committees, and be a member of, or serve as the Provosts liaison to, several standing committees. He also will represent the Provost in his absence.
I am excited to have the opportunity to work alongside the faculty, staff, and students at SEMO again, Koch said. Southeast has always been very student centered with excellent faculty and staff who are committed to student success. The people and the student-centered focus at Southeast are why I wanted to return. I believe the experiences I have gained as a vice provost, my strong commitment to shared governance and my ability to work collectively with others to solve problems align well with the Southeast philosophy and culture.
I have worked with Dr. Godard for several years and am excited and honored to be able to continue to work with him and support his strategic vision for Academic Affairs, Koch added. As vice provost, I hope to continue to develop and strengthen our institutional assessment and implement strategies to make assessment a long-term sustainable cycle. I look forward to building relationships and a greater understanding of the processes in place across the University to support our faculty, staff and students. I am very excited and honored to be a Redhawk again.
Koch has been a professor and vice provost of academic programs and services at the University of Central Missouri for two years. In this role, he has been responsible for institutional accreditation with the HLC and Missouri Department of Higher Education program actions. As a component of institutional accreditation, he has chaired the University Strategic Planning Committee, providing guidance on policy, accreditation requirements and programmatic improvements to deans, chairs, faculty and staff. Eight units have reported to him.
Prior to serving as vice provost, Koch has been professor and associate dean of the College of Health, Science, and Technology, and chair, professor and associate professor of the School of Technology at UCM.
Koch is returning to Southeast after previously serving as an instructor, assistant professor, associate professor and interim chair of the Universitys former Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology from 2003-2012.
Earlier in his career, he was an independent trainer for PTCs Global Education Program; graduate teaching assistant at both Virginia Tech and Ball State University; technology education teacher at Northfield Junior/Senior High School in Wabash, Indiana; and a corporate technical training developer and project manager with Arvin Industries.
He holds a doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction/technology education from Virginia Tech; a Master of Arts in technology education from Ball State University; and a Bachelor of Science in industrial technology education from the University of Wyoming. He also has completed mechanical engineering coursework at Purdue University.
Koch is a member of the American Society for Engineering Education; the Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering; Epsilon Pi Tau; the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association; the Technology Student Association of Missouri; and the Technology Education Association of Missouri. He has numerous publications and presentations to his credit.
