A team of Southeast Missouri State University students fromthe Department of Mathematics recently received third place honors in theMathematical Association of America Missouri Sections 24th Annual MissouriCollegiate Mathematics Competition April 4-5 at Lindenwood University in St.Charles, Missouri.
The students competed against teams from colleges and universities across Missouri. The annual competition is an opportunity for students to put their mathematical skills and knowledge to the test.
As part of the competition,teams compete in two 2.5 hour-sessions and must solve five challenging mathproblems in each session. This years competition included 31 three-personteams, with two teams entered from Southeast.

The Southeast Team A, whichtook third place, was comprised of Andrew Banning, a senior mathematics andcomputer science double major from Salem, Illinois; Dalton Cowan, a seniormathematics, actuarial science major from Buckley, Illinois; and Michael Hwang,a dual-credit senior Cape Central High School student.
The Southeast Team B wascomprised of Masayuki Miyakita, a senior mathematics and economics double majorfrom Tokyo, Japan; Britani Prescott, a senior mathematics major fromMurphysboro, Illinois; and Annie Ramey, a senior applied mathematics andcybersecurity double major from Sikeston, Missouri. Team B took 14thplace in the competition.
Both teams are coachedby Dr. Paul Deiermann, associate professor of mathematics at Southeast.
