The Southeast Missouri State University Concert Band andWind Symphony will present the final concert of the 2018-2019 Music EnsemblesSeries with Big and Little on Tuesday, April 30, in the Donald C. BedellPerformance Hall on the Southeast River Campus.
The program will feature instrumental music students studyingin the Holland College of Arts and Media. A variety of ensembles, both big andlittle, will take the stage.
The Concert Band will begin at 7:30 p.m. with March ofthe Belgian Paratroopers, followed by the multi-movement composition, IncidentalSuite, a piece by native Missourian composer Claude T. Smith. The Concert Bandwill conclude their portion of the concert with a piece written in 2010 bycomposer Michael Markowski entitled Shine.
The Southeast Wind Symphony will perform FestivalPrelude and See Rock City as a large ensemble. The Little portion of theprogram will be carried out by a woodwind choir performing Nimbus 2000 fromthe Harry Potter films, a 10-piece ensemble performing Little Symphony byFranz Schubert, and both a brass ensemble and a percussion ensemble will make guestappearances.
This is the first concert in quite some time that willemphasize a variety of performing configurations as the premise for the titleof the concert, said Dr. Martin Reynolds, director of bands and conductor ofthe Concert Band and Wind Symphony. Full ensemble selections presented by boththe Concert Band and Wind Symphony will be contrasted with smaller chambermusic ensembles.
The concert will be performed by music majors, as well asnon-majors from a variety of academic areas. Reynolds said that the diversityof the ensembles and musical styles is sure to create an extraordinaryperformance atmosphere.
