Experience the exciting and beautiful performances of The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dances annual Spring into Dance, at 7:30 p.m. April 4-6 and 2 p.m. April 7 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast Missouri State Universitys River Campus.
Spring into Dance will feature Southeast students performing original dance pieces in a variety of styles, including classical and contemporary ballet, modern, jazz and aerial dance.It will debut exciting new choreography by faculty and several guest artists. This performance celebrates dance, shares the art form of dance with the Cape Girardeau community and promotes contemporary dance in the region.
This year, the performance will include live musical accompaniment played by the Southeast Wind Symphony under the direction of Marty Reynolds. With beautiful ballet choreography on stage by faculty members Alyssa Alger and Rubn Gerding, the Wind Symphony will be performing Leonard Bernsteins ‘Candide Suite’ in celebration of the composers 100th birthday,” said Hilary Peterson, associate professor and coordinator of dance.
The concert will also feature a guest performance by dancers from The Ruth Page School of Dance in Chicago, Illinois.
“The concert is a fantastic demonstration of the talents of both our students and faculty, and audiences will thrive on the variety of the work as well as the journey they are taken on throughout the evening, Peterson said.
The concert will also highlight original contemporary dance work by internationally recognized choreographer Autumn Eckman.
Autumn Eckman is a stand-out in todays contemporary dance scene, and audiences will fall in love with the beautiful and original work, Peterson said.
Eckman of Atlanta, Georgia spent 20 years as a professional dancer working with and performing the works some of the worlds leading contemporary, classical, modern and jazz companies including Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Luna Negra Dance Theatre, Giordano Dance Chicago, Lucky Plush Productions, Ron De Jesus Dance and the State Street Ballet.
She is currently a member of The Cambrians, a Chicago-based company that uses large collaborative processes to create evening length work. Eckman is an Iowa Arts Fellow at the University of Iowa where she received a Master of Fine Arts in choreography and is currently an assistant professor of dance at the University of Arizona.
