Southeast Missouri State Universitys Greek Week 2019 Blood Drive aims to break new records and save more lives.
This years blood drive is scheduled from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. March 24-27 in the Student Recreation Centers east gym, located at 750 New Madrid St. in Cape Girardeau.
Southeasts Greek Week Blood drive is the second largest university blood drive in Missouri a ranking achieved through the dedication and support of the University and local community, said Zack Koeller, Southeast senior and director of the Greek Week Committee.
In the past five years, the growth and support weve seen has been tremendous, and its amazing how Southeast can rival institutions three times our size, Koeller said. Weve developed a really great relationship with the Red Cross, which brings some of their best assets to support us each year.
The 2018 blood drive netted 1,194 units that were donated to the American Red Cross, exceeding all previous Greek Week blood drive totals by 248 units. This years goal is to net 1,400 units.
This is really a University and community goal, Koeller said. Giving blood is an easy way to give back and change so many lives because each unit collected can save up to three lives. When we come together, we can do great things.
To schedule an appointment, call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit RedCrossBlood.org and search for semogreekweek.
Koeller also recommends signing up through the Red Cross Blood Donor App. The app is free and available for download oniPhoneandAndroiddevices.
The Blood Donor App is really neat because it makes your gift even more personal by allowing you to track where your donated blood goes, he said. The app allows you to learn how youre making a positive impact.
