Gary Tyler
The 50th anniversary of Man on the Moon will be the topic of the April 2 Historic Tuesday Talk at 7 p.m. in the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State Universitys River Campus.
Gary Tyler, outreach specialist at the museum, will give the presentation, which is free and open to the public.
The late 1950s and 1960s was a time when the world was both fascinated and worried about space. Tyler will examine the Space Race era, a decade of space programs that led to putting man on the moon in July 1969. Following the presentation, Tyler will lead a tour of the Southeast Explorers Man on the Moon exhibit.
Tyler earned a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Christian educationfrom Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri; a Bachelor of Science in elementary educationfrom Central Methodist College at Mineral Area in Park Hills, Missouri; and a Master of Arts in Christian education from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield.
As the Crisp Museums outreach specialist, Tyler operates the Southeast ExplorerMobile Museum, traveling to 25 counties in the Universitys service area to bring the museum to students. Along with presenting the rotating exhibits, Tyler also distributes supplementary teaching materials to teachers.
The Historic Tuesday Talk series takes place at 7 p.m. on select Tuesdays in the Crisp Museum though April 16. The talks consist of short, informational presentations and discussion sessions, and topics include movements, the Civil War, World War I, riverboats, railroads, socio-cultural issues, space exploration, regional history, natural resources, fossils, geology and more.
